It's late and time for bed, way past time, but my brain won't turn off - it keeps ranting about work. Pointlessly ranting I might add. I have a problem I don't know how to solve. If I'd just called in sick today, life would have been so much easier. So this is an attempt to distract.

Vamp Diaries

Roller-coaster ride of plot-twists and game-changers. This is the best paced and plotted soap that I've ever seen. Whoever is writing Ringer should take notes, actually, not to be crass but in that sort of mood, so should Whedon.

1. Oh come on, I know you aren't going to kill Elena, show stop teasing me. (Wait, maybe I'm wrong about that and oddly, I actually do care...and where the heck is Damon??? He left a while ago, is he too late? Damn, Stefan is actually going to kill her?
To save who? Tyler? I like Tyler well enough, but prefer Elena...which is something I never thought I'd say in a million years.)

2. Apparently Matt was jealous of Jeremy and decided he should see Dead People Too. [Matt, I know it sucks being the only normal person and how lonely you are with no family or girlfriend. But really? Drowning yourself to see you self-absorbed and nit-witty sister Vickie again? Talk about sibling loyalty. My bro would never do that for me. Granted he has a family and I'm not nuts. ] Poor Bonnie, she's surrounded by martyrs.

3. Katrina and Damon decide to wake up Michael the vampire who hunts vamps and the only thing that scares the heck out of Klaus. Hey, it's leverage. Also according to Anna - a bit on the suicidal side of the fence. I rather like Michael - he's played by my favorite character actor who plays sarcastic/psychotic villains in genre tv shows- otherwise known as Sebastian Roche. Please keep him around and give him more to do than you did Jake Coleman and David Anders (the other character actors outside of James Marsters and Mark A Shepard who play these types of roles. Actually this explains why Marsters can't get many roles - he's competing with Roche, Shepard (who just about has 90% of them sewn up), Coleman and Anders - who are all taller.

4. Caroline - Senior Prank Night? Really? I know you want to keep doing human things. But really? Also, did anyone else forget these guys were in high school? Just me then.

5. Cool - they literally flipped Stefan and Damon. They kept promising to do it. But now it is done. Stefan's now the homicidal dick and Damon is the long-suffering caring sort. Although I can't imagine Damon not getting the better lines - it's all in the delivery. Gotta love a show that delivers on its promises instead of relentlessly teasing and never carrying through. (Now, now, let's be nice and not name any of the culprits. We all know who they are.)

6. Damn, does Damon going back to be with Elena, mean we aren't getting our Katrina/Damon road trip ship? I was grooving on that. Actually I really like that love/hate relationship. Katrina seems to be more into Damon now that he is no longer into her at all. I think that gal likes men who don't want her.

7. Rebecca - "The old Doppleganger is prettier", Me: "Now, now, no need to be catty. Besides she just has better hair, makeup and clothes. Not to mention lines...other than that, I fail to see much difference between them. Oh right, one is nicer."
Rebecca is not growing on me - it's annoying, a supporting character who can't permanently die, and it's Rebecca. I really miss last years female supporting characters - like Rosemarie - who was cool! Rebecca is just whiny.

All in all - a kick-ass episode.

Okay, calmer now. So off to bed. Will deal with the work demons in the morning.

It's show-crack. I'm not entirely sure how they got there matters. Still it's fast-paced, guilty-pleasure show-crack. :)

First five - ten episodes of S1 are slow, and make Secret History look really in good in comparison. But after about six or seventh episode in S1, can't remember exactly, the thing takes off in major way. And introduces a lot of cool characters and twists. Same deal in the second season, starts out slow then suddenly takes off. Once you get past the whole Elena/Stefan teen angst, it's actually really entertaining.

I'll never write fanfic or meta on it, but doesn't matter. It's a satisfying ride. The writer actually follows through on his plot-point teases, shocking I know, considering how many writers don't.

I heed that when Catherine absconded with Damon after impersonating Elena... she apparently had time to restyle her hair!

Or a really great hair stylist. I want that stylist! It really is all about the hair and makeup stylist. These people do not look like this off camera.

Yes, we certainly do. And talk about fast paced, watching that show literally wears you out.

True, although the combination of her and big Bro are pretty darn evil.

Things keep getting more interesting and interesting.

I've never seen a tv show wrap up three cliff-hangers fifteen minutes before the final break. And have it make sense. Usually, you get one or two wrapped up and then a huge one hanging. I half-expected them to leave us hanging on Elena's fate - was quite relieved they didn't do that - and chose to go with the much better cliff-hanger - the Michael reveal. Also creative twist - a "vampire who hunts vampires" or think "Holtz as a vampire" chasing Vamp Diaries version of Angelus and Darla. That's a wickedly imaginative.

Vamp Diaries has the most interesting gothic mythology I've seen in ages. Most shows just repeat the same old tropes over and over again.
