Better mood today - I got sleep, and my digestive system cleared out the toxins. (Note to self - I really need to stay away from processed food, specifically french fries. I had some last week - and I think it played havoc with my digestive system. Also, no pie for me, or no Meredith's gluten-free pies, although I think it had built up over time. I had to take anti-biotics earlier in the year, and that always screws with my gut.)
Pop Culture news that is cheering me up and making me happy. It's the little things. The sky was blue today. It was cool but sunny. And there's cool pop culture news about upcoming films either newly released to streaming, or in the works to look forward to. (I'm taking a break from the national/international news for a moment for well my mental, emotional and physical well-being?)
1. Marvel Live Stream Reveal
"Earlier this month, co-directors the Russo brothers said they see Avengers 5 and 6 as a “new beginning” that will lay the foundation for whatever comes next in Phase 7 of the MCU.
“The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories,” Joe Russo said. “That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going.”
Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, and Secret Wars arrives about a year later in May 2027. Before then, Thunderbolts* comes out in May 2025, TV show Ironheart is out in June, and Phase 6 kicks off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
In October, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. It seems increasingly likely one of these movies is X-Men."

I also love Robert Downy Jr, although I managed to miss his one-man show at Lincoln Center - I couldn't afford it. I'm considering joining Lincoln Center, and getting discounted tickets that way.
There are ways?
* Telecharge or TicketMaster: Day of Tickets: One of my co-workers played the Broadway Lottery on Telecharge to score $69 side orchestra seats to see Gypsey. To do this? She had to play the lottery every morning. Log in her seats. Check back. And if she won, she can't decline, she has to pay for the seats and go that day. She made the mistake of accidentally ordering two seats, but it worked out because she found someone to go with her. Unfortunately? It's a 3 hour show, started at 7:30pm and she got out at 10:23 pm. She lives in the Bronx, so was stuck at Grand Central waiting on a train for an hour. Got home around midnight.
And only clocked 4 hours of sleep.
I'd have gotten home by around 11, but I don't sleep well, so might clock even less. There's too many risks involved. It's why I've never played the Broadway Lottery. (I don't tend to win Lottery's anyhow, and I find them anxiety inducing.)
* Tickets at the Door or in person - via Ticket Master: Also day of tickets. In person. Which is basically the same as the above. Or at the door.
* Plum Benefits - usually takes $20-50 off ticket price. Sometimes a $100 but not often. [I use Plum Benefits the most - it provides the best choices and most flexibility.]
* If Lincoln Center or Roundabout or a theater company? Become a member and get discounts. Lincoln Center is $100 a year, not sure about Roundabout Theater or BAM. [BAM actually is kind of ideal, since it's just 20 minutes away.]
* TDF - for State employees, government employees, teachers, students, actors...you don't choose your seat. So you put in for tickets, choose the day and time, and take whatever seat they give you.
Other good entertainment news?
2. A Complete Unknown is now streaming on Hulu!!! Yay!
Sing Sing is currently streaming on MAX (this is the film about the inmate who starts a theater troupe within the prison).
More and more Oscar nominated films are popping up for free (with a subscription) on streaming platforms.
3. Doctor Strange 3 has been confirmed and has exciting casting news. Sam Rami is returning as director.
And..."Benedict Cumberbatch will return, and it’s likely that Charlize Theron will also reprise her role based on the cliffhanger from the previous film. Wong is expected to return as well. However, the report also confirms an exciting addition: Dormammu!
Yes, the villain from the first film is making a comeback, and we’re thrilled to share that he will be portrayed by Denzel Washington. This suggests we may see more than just his head in the third installment."
[The Marvel movies continue to have the best casting and directors. They cast folks I'd go watch read the phone book.]
4. Upcoming Superhero Films for 2025 and 2026
Ah, I'm right, Fantastic Four: First Steps is going retro - it's in an AU, and takes place in the 1960s. Fantastic Four Trailer - this could actually work? Fantastic 4 works better as retro - because a lot of the things that happened in the comic don't really work now, but did in the 1960s, it solves the problem.
And the Superman Trailer (Superman has a large cast)

Date: 2025-03-30 12:34 am (UTC)Oh. Wow. That's...I need a moment.
.....
It's not the casting I would have made myself, but...I can see it. In the comics, Dormammu may be a power hungry interdimensional overlord, but he's extremely protective of his subjects in the Dark Dimension. (In a way, he's the magical equivalent of Doctor Doom, who is protective of his subjects in Latveria). I can see Denzel digging in to play both sides of the character.
Plus, we have the twisted family drama angle! Clea (Charlize Theron), after all, is Dormammu's niece--and wouldn't you want to see Theron and Denzel face off with Cumberbatch caught in the middle?
Speaking as your resident Dr. Strange superfan, my only question is: does Clea's mother come into play here? Umar, Dormammu's sister, has been both Dormammu's ally and occasional rival for control of the Dark Dimension. Do we bring in the whole family or does that complicate things a little TOO much? (Who would you cast that wouldn't get blown off the screen?)
So many interesting possibilities....
Re: Denzel and DS3
Date: 2025-03-30 02:33 pm (UTC)As for an actress who they wouldn't blow off the screen - I'm drawing a blank at the moment. They may not cast the mother. Right now, the fans are attempting to figure out if the Doctor Strange movie is coming out after Avengers: Doomsday. My guess is it appears to be, while Spiderman film is at the same time. With both Spidey and Strange playing a role in Secret Wars, just not Doomsday. But they aren't clear on it.
But the films look really good. Denszel is an interesting choice - they clearly needed someone who could hold their weight with Cumberbatch. When you are casting folks like Downy Jr and Cumberbatch in these roles, you got to cast the other roles with the same weight, or the film kind of sputters. It's why Paul Rudd, got Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfieffer for Antman.
Her favorite uncle
Date: 2025-03-30 05:20 pm (UTC)Still, the family drama would add some interesting shadings to the story. Steven's relationship to his arch enemy has gone through some subtle changes. Oh, they still hate each other, but it's tinged with mutual respect and a bit of "you married my niece, so I guess we're sort of family?" thrown in.
[But it's one of those families that literally tries to obliterate each other from time to time.]
The family dynamic was captured perfectly during Umar's recent wedding. Stephen and Clea were obligated to attend, but clearly wanted to be anywhere else:
Stephen: Do you think there's an open bar?
Clea: Gods, I hope so.
