1. Well, Ao3 keeps getting itself into trouble - it waded into the Israel/Palestine conflict, then so did Tumblr and Reddit. Xitter also waded in and got into trouble.

Best to stay clear of that - it has over 2000 years on all of us. That conflict goes back to the Old Testament of the Bible. Stay clear folks, no win there.

Actually, I tend to feel that way about politics in general. The recent Doctor Who episode kind of nailed that on the head - everyone likes to think they are right, and everyone else is wrong, and it should go their way. Be wary of the overtly self-righteous and allegedly justified, they will kill us all.

2. Me and Breaking Bad discuss climate change...

Breaking Bad: This nasty weather - I don't get it.
Me: Well, climate change.
Breaking Bad (looks skeptical): whatever.
Me: No, this is the causal side effect of polluting the environment and doing all the things we did. We can't have it both ways - there's consequences. I know, I did environmental abatement - you'd be amazed the things we polluted the groundwater with.
He didn't look convinced, he looked like an annoyed owl.

3. Crazy Workplace

MA informs me that in order to do a site tour for her project, which is on private property, everyone including the dog has to provide insurance or proof of it - or the owner won't let them on the property. (I'm thinking this property must be insanely dangerous?)

During the Board Meeting - they asked why the railroad was paying to replace a highway bridge. Apparently, because we somehow ended up with custody of it?

Meanwhile the big project didn't appear to make it to the board, yet we are still moving ahead, I'll find out for certain, I think, on Wed. I told Breaking Bad - some folks deserved coal in their stockings.

And MA made a good point - she wants us to go over first - so we can get good spots. If we go last, we'll get horrible spots. (Damn, they'll probably put me next to the break room, the bathrooms or elevators, and away from the windows, again. I always get the worst spot on the floor.) Motivation to get promoted into management and out of the union, now includes office with a window (which there's no guarantee of), and lifetime medical insurance (assuming I get that - the whole medical insurance bit is confusing - I've gotten five different analysis of it and they all contradict each other.)

4. I'm flirting with Autocrit - mainly because it may resolve my difficulty with finding good betas for my work. This kind of supplies that function for a price.

But I'm leery of the cost. I already have Scrivener, and don't use it. And Word has a built in grammar and edit function now.

So I don't know? I have a lot of stories in my head, but not a lot of time to tell them.

5. Found out the results of the Sleep Apnea Test from my Doctor - turns ot that I have Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Lovely. I don't know what that means. So scheduled a followup for Thursday to find out. It was either that or wait until February, and just no.

I think it's my allergies.

At least I'm not coughing, I used to do that. But I do have issues breathing at night.

6. Four novels that I wish they would adapt into movies, but alas, it won't happen...

* Maria Doria Russell's The Sparrow
* Anne McCaffrey's Dragon-Rider Series
* Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond Chronicles
* The Vicky Bliss Mysteries by Elizabeth Peters

Maybe it's a good thing that it won't happen?

Sometimes, it's better when they don't adapt your favorite novels to the screen?

7. What else? Oh yes, the Great Mask Debate. Most of us aren't wearing them in NYC in and out of the major transportation hubs (such as the Air Train Building - which houses the commuter trains, subways, buses, and train to JFK). There are folks who wear them, but they are few between. The homeless don't.

Weirdly no one is sniffling or coughing and seems to be fine.

I've not really heard anyone cough on a subway or train since December of 2019.

We all masked up in NYC from roughly March 2020 to July 2022, then we kind of gave up. We did it longer than a lot of the other areas around the world and country. There are people who continue, and that's fine. There's no fights over it. It's NYC, no one cares whether or not you wear a mask. You could wander about with a neon ski mask half-naked, and folks would ignore you.

I honestly think how folks handle this situation has a lot to do with how they process information and think. I think logically. There's no one near me on the commuter trains and they have a built in air purification system - they are cleaner than my apartment building, air wise. The subways, more people, but not that long, and also in-built air purification system.
Office - also has one. And I'm not that close in proximity.

Add to all of this - I don't really socialize, I don't go to meetings or crowded events. I don't go to the theater. I walk for exercise. I don't go to gyms. Logically - there really is no need for me to wear a mask.
And to support my logic? I got sick in 2022 wearing one, and didn't get sick in 2020, when I wasn't wearing one at the height of the pandemic.
Same with various co-workers - who had the same thing happen, and its why they've pretty much given up. They only wear it - if they get COVID, and come back to work after five days or get sick with a head cold.
