1. Good news, Wales survived -- she was in the hospital for a week, Read more... )

2. Smart Bitches Reviews the Latest in the Lady Trent novels

3. I need to figure out how to use my Instapot. Instant Pot is Better than a Grill.

I have one, I'm just afraid to use it. We covered the fact that while I can cook, I'm not crazy about it, right?

4. S2 of The Expanse was actually better than S1. It only had two boring episodes.
Also more diverse and interesting characters, and less screen time taken up by political discussions that seemingly go nowhere or James Holden/Stephen Miller bonding -- which worked better in the book than series. S2 has some fascinating heroines, and a few new additions that make the story more interesting and varied.

Also it ends on a much more interesting cliff-hanger, which isn't really a cliff-hanger, but also sort of is. Much like Farscape before it -- it's making a strong statement about technology, warfare and humanity.

I'm going to binge S3 this weekend.

And stay away from the news...which is making me increasing frustrated, misanthropic, depressed and anxious. You know there's a problem -- when you can't help but wonder if the leader of your country is the anti-christ. (Lando is convinced of it, he went on a mini-rant about it earlier this week. I told him he was a frustrated Baptist Minister and had missed his true calling. He agreed, since apparently Baptist Ministers have expensive cars and are living the life.)

1. Finished Time Served by Julianna Keyes -- don't recommend. Read more... )

2. Also re-watched the Hugh Jackman/Trevor Nunn production of Oklahoma that was filmed by Sky Productions -- while it was playing in London's West End. This was before Jackman won the role of Wolverine, and his film career took off. I actually watched it before thing. An online friend loaned me a DVD of it -- to show her latest crush. And yes, it's hard not to fall for Hugh Jackman in that role.

But it sort of underlined when I decided not to pay $140-$160 to see the Broadway Revival of Oklahoma, and why I've never liked the musical very much.

It's actually adapted from Lynn Riggs 1931 play "Green Grow the Lilacs", and was first produced on Broadway in 1941. Read more... )

As an aside Broadway HD is a mixed bag --- the sound went out at various points in Oklahoma, but it worked well with Kiss Me Kate. And it is rather nice watching old theater performances on the tv.

3. Finished the first three episodes of The Expanse S3 -- so far enjoying this season more than the last two. spoilers )

If you gave up on the Expanse in S1 -- it's worth giving it a second go. Season 2.9 onwards is rather good and it just gets better as we go.
