Decided to stay inside today, after yesterday's two hour excursion. I think it was two hours...let's see I left at 4:30 or thereabouts and returned at 6 something. So about two hours? I ached a little afterwards, and my shoulders and back are bothering me today. Possibly the arthritis, connected to the weather. I took two tynenol and have cold on my back, heat on my shoulders and drinking a spiked lime seltzer - calling it a day.
Deliveries
________
Me: You have permission to laugh at me.
Mother: Okay..
Me: I now have enough toilet paper to last until 2021.
Mother laughs.
Me: It's three packs of eight rolls, equaling 33 rolls each since the rolls are thick. It was impossible to get less than that, and I gave up. Quilted Northern.
Mother: Well, I guess you could just stack them one on top of each other in your closet?
ME: Oh, I got them into the closet, I just put them on top of the rest. I also have enough paper towels to last into 2021. Which is good because they are impossible to find in the grocery stores - and I got tired of hunting for them. What I'm about to run low on is disinfectant...
The Quilted Northern came in a big box with "Quilted Northern" printed on it - via UPS. Since UPS brought it - it was left outside my apartment door and not downstairs. Not all delivery people are created equal. I got it on Amazon. Nothing else will deliver it to me. It was sprayed by me. I need to stop doing that - I'm running out of spray. Also need to stop ordering things online. I miss the days when I could just pick stuff up in the store on the way home from work - such a simple thing.
I have more food coming tomorrow - mainly because I'm avoiding the grocery store. The last time I ventured inside it - about a month ago (?) - was traumatizing. I feel sorry for the cashiers and people working there. I'd rather get a delivery - there's only one person I have to be in contact with, and the contact is relatively minor. Also I can wash whatever they give me. In most cases the boxes sit out for a bit anyhow.
What I have not been able to order online so far - is allergy meds and disinfectants. So may have to try to get both the next time I brave a pharmacy.
______
Mono vs. COVID-19
Oh, my niece's test results came back. She has mono. We're all relieved. Yes, I know, it's odd that we're all relieved that it is mono. But we know what "mono" is and that it will eventually go away. COVID, not so much. You know life has gotten weird, when you're relieved that a beloved family member has mono.
She's been told to take it easy for the next few months, get plenty of rest, and not do anything. Since she can't really do anything anyhow - this isn't going to be a problem, also she's tired a lot.
_______
Crazy Workplace
Keeps telling me that testing for COVID is available. But I don't really fit the criteria. I'm not exhibiting symptoms, I'm not an essential worker, and I have not been exposed. Also there's no testing sites anywhere near me.
I kind of feel sorry for the essential workers.
Governor: It's easy to get a test, just go to a drive-through testing site.
Me: What if you don't have a car?
Workplace: Go get a test at all the Northwell sites.
Me: There aren't any near me.
Workplace: It's free of charge.
ME: I'll get it through my Doctor in June, leave me alone with these emails and notifications already.
They aren't demanding it exactly, just kind of generally informing us. Still annoying. NY, as I've said previously, has become "test happy" - it is obsessed with testing. They have more tests now than people getting tests. And they really really want every person in the state to take the test. The problem is getting it to the people.
Shoulders
Hurts like hell. But I'm ignoring it and working with the arms and shoulders any how, even though the pain occasionally gives me a sick head ache and makes me dizzy. It's tight muscles. I can feel the knots. What I need is a really good series of myofascia massages, but alas, not possible at the moment. So using Tynenol on occasion, heat, cold, doing the exercises (crawling my fingers up the wall), CBD salve...and it helps. So too does a touch of alcohol apparently - the pain is going away, with the lime seltzer. (Which is why I bought more.)
New York vs. the Corona Virus and the Federal Government (mostly the stupid Federal Government and MAGA idiots)
Honestly, I've come to the conclusion that social conservatives aka Trump supporters/MAGA are whiny idiots. They don't have the sense god gave a cat.
And if they all dropped dead tomorrow, we'd be better off and America would be great again. Ironic that.
If this offends you? I'm not sorry. Fuck off.
Some Reporter asked the Governor what his response was to the Republican politicking in our Federal Government. I give him credit, he kept his poker face mostly intact, although I could tell from his eyes - that he gleefully saw this as another opportunity to rant at our idiotic federal government.
Reporter: What is your response to President Trump stating that he is using the anti-malaria drug hydrocholorine to prevent himself from getting the virus?
Governor: Hydrocholorine doesn't work and presents dangerous side-effects. We tried it. It doesn't work. We've move on.
Then...
Governor: This crisis has proven that not anyone can run this country or work in government. You require someone who is competent, who knows what they are doing. Not someone who is just going to tweet their way through it.
Then...
Governor: And we can't make this about politics and benefiting the donors. If you don't bail out New York and California - watch your economy die. Do you really think your economy is going to survive if you don't help New York and California? Really?
We want the idiotic Senate to pass the House Bill and give 500 billion to the States, money to essential workers, money to families in need, but the idiotic Senate wants to give the money to banks to lend to small businesses.
Sigh. Like that's worked so well in the past.
Facebook Neighborhood Page: When will the New York Governor's Mini-Series Stop?
ME: When people stop dying of COVID-19, you idiot. (But I deleted it. It's not a good thing to rant on social media.)
Meanwhile, I'm getting emails from the Democrats for money - apparently McConnell admitted to Fox News that the entire Republican Senate is in jeopardy. Well that's because you overplayed your hand you asswipe. You made it clear to the American public that you and Kentucky put money and corporations above human life. I seriously doubt everyone in Kentucky agrees.
I refuse to give money to politicians, I let my mother do that - she has more money than I do. I give it to the hungry and folks struggling.

Celebrity Gossip
Update on celebrity gossip...apparently Neil Gaiman felt the need to set the record straight on his split with Amanda Palmer - on "Good Reads" of all places. I'd forgotten about the whole thing.
I honestly don't care that much about writers or singers personal lives. But I do wish they'd stop reminding me of how rich they are and privileged. I really don't need to know that you have a lovely place up in Scotland, or in Woodstock (upstate NY) or in New Zealand to isolate in. Or hear you whine about it. There's some of us that are in small apartments in heavily populated urban areas who do not have these luxuries.
What annoyed me most about his missive...was that he couldn't self-isolate in Woodstock because five families had retreated there from Boston and New York. Must be a huge house? How rich are these people? They have a house in Woodstock, a place in Scotland, and one in New Zealand?
See, I read this bit right after I read the NY Times article about the majority of cases being in low income areas. And that Manhattan - the rich white areas in Manhattan had very few cases. I'm wedged between two areas that have been hit hard by the virus and have had a lot of deaths - but I'm also in one of the most racially diverse areas of the city.
Why were these hit hardest? Most of the people in Manhattan and the wealthy areas of Brooklyn fled to upstate New York. They could afford to leave.
Cowards. My brother was complaining about them - because they brought the damn virus with them - infecting people upstate.
I'm guessing his timing could have been better.
Oh wait, when I went to get the link for you - I ran into this Extremely Apologetic Post - apparently I wasn't the only one who got annoyed. Wandering about during a pandemic for personal non-essential reasons is NOT a good idea. Particularly when there's a foreign travel ban in place. And no one is going anywhere. What did Neil do? He traveled from New Zealand to LA to London to Scottish Isles to self-isolate. And the Scottish Isles had a major outbreak, and people got angry at him.
I kind feel sorry him now. Although, I'm also kind of amused. I can understand where he is coming from. But, I wonder if he realizes that he's incredibly privileged to be able to do any of that? Most people can't. Also, most of us would prefer to be in New Zealand, including the people in Skye, Scotland.
But, at the same time, I'm charmed by what he wrote, and I kind of get it. He was scared. He was far from home. Away from his work. Away from the world he knew. And having relationship problems. Didn't know what to do. We don't always make the best choices ...people screw up. I like the fact he admits that he screwed up and takes responsibility. We all screw up. I screw up all the time.
What's happening right now around the world is the worst thing that has happened in our lifetime. It's a watershed moment. Nothing will ever be the same again. Nothing. I was discussing this with my mother tonight and we were talking about going to see a major sporting event, which the Governor of New York is trying to figure out how to do without putting anyone at risk. This skewed into a discussion about Broadway Shows, then movie theaters, then restaurants...and I admitted that I would rather get on a plane than go see a Broadway show or go into a movie theater - it would be safer. Or would it? My god. It keeps going when you think about all the cross-connections.
General Hospital will go on hiatus on May 22. It airs its last new episode on Thursday. After that, may be reruns. It's been running for over 56 years. Without a break. Now...it's future is up in the air. They only have rights for the reruns dating back to 2013. Young & the Restless ran out of new shows earlier - and is running re-runs, but it has rights that date further back. Days of Lives taped enough new episodes to go until August or thereabouts. All the Prime Times shows probably won't pop up again until Spring 2021 with few exceptions. Movies are on hold.
Think for a minute how many people are employed by everything mentioned above. General Hospital has a cast of 75 people, with even more crew, writers, etc. And those people are pay-check to pay-check, they aren't salaried.
Think about who buys things. Who goes to the theaters. The Tony Awards have been post-poned and won't air this year.
God. It's staggering if you think about it. When I do. I start to cry.
It's so painful.
So yeah, I feel for Neil - who flew around the world to find a place that was familiar, as his world was dropping out from under him. I get it. I'm not entirely certain I wouldn't do the same thing in his place.
